We are well into the 4th year of war since Putin invaded Ukraine. Early on, Putin kidnapped many children from Ukraine and moved them to Russia, placing them with families to be indoctrinated as Russians. Although the world has been impressed with the Ukrainian people and their success in fighting off the Russians, the war continues with escalating attacks on civilians. Imagine your own children being schooled in tunnels and waiting for the bombs to fall as they sleep. Children are the ones who pay the price when adults start wars. They have no power or agency to change what is happening to them. They deal with it as best they can.

I am choosing to support Voices of Children — Ukraine because of its holistic approach. It is the largest Ukrainian Foundation providing comprehensive psychological support to children living through war. The Foundation staffs 10 centers across the country that work with parents and communities to identify and meet children’s needs combining therapy and the arts. Creativity, in my professional and personal experience, is key to thriving after trauma.
